FEATURE: Hot Young Things: Meghan Weinstein on Collage, College Life & Oral Sex.

Meghan Weinstein is the next HYT victim although maybe it's us who's being victimised. I mean would you mess with this girl? Anyway let's see what she had to say about her art. She was talking to CTZN V41N.

So Meghan tell us a little bit about yourself for our readers. How old are you, where you are from, how long have you been an artist?

I am currently 18 years old. I was born in Calgary raised in Vancouver went to high school in San Francisco and now I go to college in Los Angeles. I really only started to get involved with art last year, my senior year of high school. I guess I was kind of a late bloomer.

Is that really you in the picture? What's going on there? So how would you describe your art?

Yup that's me. I found that little kids flamingo costume at a goodwill and knew it had to be mine. It was love at first sight. It had me at hello. I am not really sure how I would describe my art. I kind of just piece together things or pictures that I like in a composition that I like and hope it looks cool. My art work doesn't have any deeper meaning, I’m not artsy fartsy. It’s just supposed to look cool and hopefully make people laugh.

So would you say your main aim would be to make people laugh? So if you're not artsy fartsy do you see yourself making a career in the art industry? What's the plan for the future?

I just like for my art work to get some kind of reaction. I would rather somebody hate it and be totally disgusted than not have an opinion. A lot of the time, though, I do put things together in a c
ollage that will give it some sort of, gross and sick aspect that at least I find humorous. I have a pretty immature sense of humour though. I think some people will find my work funny and some will find it repulsive or offensive.

When I say artsy fartsy, I guess I mean that I don't take myself so seriously. I just don't really buy into the whole, "this lobster represents Jesus and this oyster represents oral sex," thing that I’ve been learning about in art school. I guess I just have a different attitude towards art than what a stereotypical "artist" does. But there should be room in the art industry for people will all different standpoints.

Right now I’m only a freshman in college so I still have a lot of time to figure out what I want to do. I’m still pretty new to the whole art thing so I’m just experimenting and finding out what parts of it I like.

So what’s next for Meghan? Where can we see your work and where can we buy it?

I’m just going with the flow right now, experiencing different kinds of art at school and seeing which ones I like the most. I really have no clue what's next. I never really thought much about selling my art. If somebody wanted to buy something they could just go to my MySpace where I have all my art stuff and send me a message or email about it. I’m too lazy to set up a real website; right now I just have my MySpace page.

A Big thanks to Meghan who you are bound to see and hear more from in the future. If you want to be featured in the next Hot Young Things then
