This is a quirky foray into the outer realms of what can actually be quantified as indie music rather than experimental.Remember Crystal Castles? The band not the game. Well Adventure is a bit like them in a way, but then again completely different in another. I don't know how I feel about this album. I'm confused. Maybe that's the point?
I really like some of the tracks on here like 'Poison Diamonds', 'Travel Kid' and 'Jurassic Park City' but I think it's all a bit samey and repetetive if you listen to the whole thing in one go. So the best way I found is to therefore dissect the album and listen to it one or two tracks at a time. That way you won't crash your circuits and have to press the reset button in your brain.
This retro computer game sound is not going to last for very long. It's too off the chart for most 'norms' and it will die a death eventually, just like the computer games it pays hommage to. That's why you should buy this and enjoy it for the moment. It's not a future classic and you are going to laugh at yourself when you rediscover it a few years down the road, but who cares?
If you really want to piss off your parents then go buy this and play it full volume on your Dad's stereo. Oh, and before I forget I think Adventure or real name 24 year old Benny Boeldt is an exceptionally talented producer and I can't wait to hear the mad shit he comes up with next.
3/5
